IRENE GOES GREEN
Monday, 29th March 2010

This past weekend, Irene Village Mall went all out to celebrate Earth Hour, by making the village even greener than before! We provided exhibition space to environmentally friendly products, such as Eftech solar geysers, Envirocair household cleaners, Something out of Nothing decorating and HP Plants, and our shops were encouraged to display their green products.

On Friday we hosted a lunch for the media at Mimmo’s, where our landlord, Hannes Pickard, planted a tree as a symbol of Irene Village Mall’s commitment to the environment. Journalists were taken on a site tour of our Don’t Waste recycling depot, where we achieved a record recycling rate of 80% in 2009.

At sunset on Saturday, 300 lucky vehicles exiting the mall received little fever trees, sponsored by our award-winning Life Landscapes. Finally, just before 20:30, the lights of our iconic water tower were switched off as we joined millions around the world in celebrating Earth Hour.
