IRENE ALWAYS ON ALERT!

Irene Village Mall in Centurion conducted a successful fire drill and full evacuation exercise on Tuesday, 9 March 2010. The fire alarm was activated at 08:10, after which all shoppers, tenants and staff on the premises were evacuated to their respective assembly points. The Fidelity security guards did a sweep of the entire mall to ensure that everyone had safely exited the premises. The mall’s health and safety marshalls took roll-call at the three assembly points and ensured that everybody remained calm and that the proceedings were concluded expediently. At 08:25 the “all-clear” was given, and by 08:32 everyone was allowed to re-enter the trading areas of the mall.

Jan Engelbrecht, the floor marshall and ‘Red Hat’, who took expert control of the situation, said, “It went very well, thanks to the Disaster Management Team of Centurion, Tshwane Metro Police, our local SAPS and our Fidelity security guards. The tenants and customers were also very cooperative and quick to respond.”

It’s reassuring to know that Irene Village Mall is always prepared for any emergency situation, especially since we’re expecting a whole bunch of first-time visitors during the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup.
