| WIMPY FC WINS THE MOO CUP FINAL!
The month-long Moo Cup Tenant Soccer Tournament at Irene Village Mall reached its dramatic conclusion this afternoon, with Wimpy FC emerging as champions! Scores of supporters were on hand to cheer on their teams in the semi-final matches between Mugg & Bean Fire Power, Pick n Pay Stars, Wimpy FC and Karoo United. The competition was intense, and both teams reached the final with only a small margin of victory in 4-3 and 5-4 respectively. Paris Paphitis of the local Mimmo’s, the appointed referee, managed to keep the passions of the players in check, even though the Jabulani ball flew vast distances from the mini Ya Cheeza soccer field quite a few times! Luckily a few young soccer fans were eager to assist in retrieving the balls from the fountain court, and thus be part of the action. The much anticipated final match between Mugg & Bean Fire Power and Wimpy FC started off with much energy and determination. At first it seemed somewhat one-sided, with Mugg & Bean Fire Power leading 2-0 at halftime, and even being 4-1 ahead at some stage. However, Wimpy FC fought back bravely, and succeeded in securing a tied 4-4 score when the final whistle blew. The luck was on Wimpy’s side in the deciding penalty shootout that ensued, ultimately winning the match 3-0 on successful goal attempts. The winners received the Moo Cup trophy which will be proudly displayed in Irene Village Mall’s ever-popular Wimpy, as well as Jabulani soccer balls and other goodies. Congratulations to the champions and all the other teams who played so well in this first ever Moo Cup Tenant Soccer Tournament! Tenants and staff were agreed on the fact that the Tournament succeeded in uniting the mall’s inhabitants like never before, much like the beautiful game has also done for our country. Viva 2010! |
